What we say matters, and it all begins with what we say to ourselves - starting with our thoughts.
How often do we experience an inner turmoil about how to be and react in certain situations, conversations or in life? Why is it that we let the negativity, anger, frustration and ego take over and, at times, define who we are in the moment... I would guess that results in us showing up as a person we really don't want to be. Yet we continue to fuel that anger, negativity and fear... we continue to feed it. But to what end? It is my wish that today's post helps us to all stop and think about the choices we have, the decisions we make, and who we truly want to be.
It's tough to look at a list of problems and feel a sense of excitement or even a sense of contentment. But is there another way to look at them?
What would your +/- Ratio be? Are you bringing more to those around you when you are around, or are you taking away from their momentum, success and enjoyment?
How many of us yearn to be truly happy in life? I would guess pretty much all of us! It's a noble and aspirational pursuit. But are we chasing happiness? Do we feel as though we are going after a moving target? For instance, do you hear yourself saying any of these things: 'once I get this, or once I have that, or once I achieve this goal I will be happy'? Again, we should all be able to have our moments of happiness, but I want to challenge the notion of whether or not it is worth chasing...

Have you ever heard the phrase, 'life is a marathon, not a sprint'? If you've heard it before or are hearing it for the first time, do you agree with it? Personally, I disagree... Think about it, life doesn’t happen at a slow and steady pace - especially if we are pursing something big and meaningful. A life of purpose requires a faster pace, and if we try to live life as a marathon at the pace required, we won't be able to handle it physically, emotionally or mentally. Now let’s dig a little deeper and start recalibrating to a sprinters pace and accelerate our path to our personal vision of success.
So much of the good and bad in life all comes down to how we choose to view it. Two people can experience the exact same event and have two completely different reactions. One may think it was the greatest thing in the world while the other thinks it was awful and a waste of time. Today, I want to call attention to a question that we need to ask ourselves more often. Do we have to do something? OR Do we get to do something?
So the belief existed as fact - a sub-4-minute mile was simply impossible. And then... it wasn't.
In our personal and professional lives, our 40 yard dash may be the most meticulously planned approach to achieving a goal, dream or vision. But what happens after first contact? What happens to our momentum and drive after the first obstacle or setback?
We believe in our future selves too much sometimes, and it creates a recipe for disaster and disappointment. Don't let the hope and dream of our ideal future self justify giving less than our best today.
