We all have big dreams and aspirations to do great things.

And yet, how often do we convince ourselves that “today” is just not the right day to take action?  Someday, but not today.

Someday I will…

  • Start working out
  • Quit smoking
  • Rebuild a broken relationship
  • Start my own business
  • Leave a toxic relationship
  • etc.

… but not today.

How does putting these things off serve us? And what if someday never comes?

There will never be a perfect time to take on any of these big opportunities or challenges, start a good habit or eliminate a bad one, or begin the long journey out of a difficult situation.

So today I challenge you

I challenge you to ask yourself what is the first action you can take to start down the path of what you’ve been pushing off until “someday.”

And I challenge you to shift your thinking and belief from there is never a perfect time to every moment is the perfect time to take action

What becomes possible when you take that new frame of mind?

Make Someday Today!

Changing your way of thinking to a ‘take action now’ and ‘every moment is the perfect time’ mindset is by no means easy. It’s something I struggle with too.  However if we keep pushing it off because it’s a struggle, then I fear our someday will never come.

So, instead I challenge you to identify the most impactful thing that you’ve been putting off until someday and walk it through the following guidance. I hope you are inspired and motivated to take action based on what you find as you come out the other end.

Throw out the list of why you can’t

There are always going to be reasons (including but not limited to “the Earth could be hit by an asteroid tomorrow”) for why today isn’t the right time to start something.

Acknowledge all the reasons you think you can’t do something now and then put them behind you. They aren’t serving you.

There is power and clarity in writing, so I challenge you to write down all the reasons why you can’t.  Read them and then crumple that paper and throw it away (or even better, burn it)!

Write the list of why now IS the right time to start

Now that all the reasons you can’t start now are pushed aside (or incinerated), list out all the reasons that you are in the perfect position to take that first step towards what you’ve been pushing off today.

List off your talents, the resources you have, the support system around you – whatever is relevant to what you want to do.

Write them down and focus on all the reasons that something is possible as opposed to why it isn’t.

Not to anyone else… commit to yourself.

Yes, I’m always fully in support of grabbing an accountability buddy if possible, however if you can’t find a deep enough internal reason / passion / why to do what you desire to do within yourself, then solely relying on our support system will only get you so far.

No one is going to keep you going during those difficult times or in the moments when no one is watching better than you when you have a strong enough sense of belief and purpose to battle through whatever it is that may be getting in your way.

So now that you’ve taken through your more impactful ‘someday’ to-do through these steps, what are you seeing as possible now that you weren’t seeing before?

My hope is that you see a new tomorrow… or more specifically, a new today.  Take the reigns and take your first step towards a better version of your life, your situation and yourself right now!

Someday is today. You just need to believe it too.

Discussion Question: What is one thing that is keeping you from turning “I’ll do it someday” into “I’ll do it today.”?
