What would your +/- Ratio be? Are you bringing more to those around you when you are around, or are you taking away from their momentum, success and enjoyment?
How many of us yearn to be truly happy in life? I would guess pretty much all of us! It's a noble and aspirational pursuit. But are we chasing happiness? Do we feel as though we are going after a moving target? For instance, do you hear yourself saying any of these things: 'once I get this, or once I have that, or once I achieve this goal I will be happy'? Again, we should all be able to have our moments of happiness, but I want to challenge the notion of whether or not it is worth chasing...
In our personal and professional lives, our 40 yard dash may be the most meticulously planned approach to achieving a goal, dream or vision. But what happens after first contact? What happens to our momentum and drive after the first obstacle or setback?
We all have big dreams and aspirations to do great things. And yet, how often do we convince ourselves that "today" is just not the right day to take action? Someday, but not today. How does putting these things off serve us? And what if someday never comes?
How many of us have risen out of someone's shadow in our lives or careers? A parent, boss, mentor, teacher, or coach... They prepared us to step out of their shadow and take the lead in our own life. Take a moment a think of who those people are in your life... Now, ask yourself "who is standing in MY shadow right now?"
What does the future hold for you? What does the future hold for any of us? Will it be filled with memories of great accomplishments, experiences and realized goals, or will it be filled with regret for not doing the things that truly mattered? Since we don't really know what the future has in store for us, perhaps the more appropriate question is what do we believe that we can do, be and become in the future? So, what do you think? Are you a future legend?
In a world so focused on what other people have, or on what other people expect us to do, what if we instead focus on who we are while making sure the person we see in the mirror is someone we are proud to be?
Often times it is tough to close the door on one phase of our life or even one event in our life. Endings are difficult - no doubt about it. Whether that ending is a season of life where you came away with the championship, or ended up winless, the fear of what's next can be very real. During times like these, we must remind ourselves that every ending is the opportunity for a new beginning. A fresh start that is full of new possibilities. Where are you in our own cycle of endings and new beginnings? Are you stuck in the past - afraid to let go, or are you hungry and ready to embrace a new beginning and all the opportunity and possibility that comes with it?
Today's post is a bit selfish... call it a motivational speech to myself - one that I sorely need right now. And while I personally need this now, I know this feeling of treading water is something we all feel at times. So I hope today's message lights you up now or some day in the future when complacency tries to come knocking... BE RELENTLESS...
